Bullying: The Passive Tormentor

Bullying, tormenting, harassing—this are not terms that only serve children at school. Bullying is a wide spread problem in America. This behavior is prevalent in our workplaces, on the internet, and beyond. Whether physical or mental bullying, it important to recognize the issue or else the behavior will probably escalate.

Here are some ideas for dealing with bullies and their aggressive behavior:

Before you do anything, try ignoring this offender and leave the scene. Some bullies use bad behavior to gain attention, so if you give them none, they may not be encouraged to continue bullying you.

Never get physical or show your anger. Over reacting to the situation will only give the bully more ammunition or excuses to continue his/her behavior. You do not want to be the one who gets in trouble for doing something, when it is the bully who should be punished.

Always show your confidence, not your insecurities. Whether you are pretending to be confident or really are doesn’t really matter. The way people perceive you will be different and they will see less opportunity to take advantage of you.

Talk about it with your friends. Talking about bullying incidents is important. Bullies want you to seem alone and vulnerable. Your friends may be able to give you more advice and support.
