Diving Board Injuries

Diving boards are very popular additions to family pools. Kids love them. They see professional divers performing amazing, acrobatic dives off of high boards and they want to be able to perform ‘tricks’ of their own. While diving boards can be a lot of fun, they can be dangerous if not used properly.

It is important for parents to speak with their children or any other children they might be supervising about how to be safe while on the diving board. The following rules should be conveyed to children so that they can enjoy the diving board and avoid injuries:

  • When there is more than one person that wants to use the diving board, a line should be formed off of the diving board. Only one person should be on the diving board at a time. This allows the diver room to go down the board and jump with less chance of tripping on someone else’s feet.
  • Dives should always be aimed out into the deep portion of the water and away from the diving board. Kids will often try to do flips or other acrobatic dives that don’t project out and away from the diving board, placing them at risk of coming down onto the diving board itself. This can lead to serious injury, so it is important to dive as far away from the board as possible.

Injuries can and will happen around swimming pools. A good time can quickly turn deadly if people aren’t careful. Sometimes the decisions that are made near the swimming pool can put others at great risk. If you have been injured in a swimming pool or on a diving board as a result of another’s negligent or careless actions, may be eligible to receive compensation.
