Dog Bite Claims Cost Insurers $356.2 Million

by Administrator 26. June 2008 04:06
In 2007, dog bite claims cost insurers about $356.2 million.  According to the Insurance Information Institute, dog bites accounted for about one-third of all home owners’ insurance claims.  Although the number of total bites actually decreased in 2007, the cost of each claim jumped 11.5% to about $24,511. This rise in claim value is occurring because of increased medical costs and the size of settlements, judgments, and jury awards which have risen far above the normal level of inflation in recent years. If you have been bitten by a dog, contact the experienced Rhinelander dog bite personal injury lawyers at Habush Habush & Rottier today at 800.369.5990 to discuss your specific situation.

Rhode Island Man Wins $2 Million Medical Malpractice Award

by Administrator 11. June 2008 05:06
A Rhode Island man recently won a $2 million medical malpractice lawsuit for his claim that he suffered brain damage due to a lack of proper care during open heart surgery at a Rhode Island hospital.   During the 1998 operation, the plaintiff claims he suffered from low amounts of oxygen to his brain, causing permanent damage.  The man lost memories of his children, became unable to properly form new memories, and experienced communication disabilities. After interest is calculated, the settlement amount is about $3.6 million.  The lawyer representing the sued hospital and doctor claims the plaintiff received excellent medical care.  The attorney plans to file a motion for a new trial, and if that fails, an appeal with the Supreme Court. If you have suffered from medical malpractice, contact the experienced Rhinelander personal injury attorneys at Habush Habush & Rottier today at 800.369.5990 to learn more.

Animal Bites Increasing in Texas County

by Administrator 4. June 2008 03:06
In Anderson County, Texas, animal bites are on the rise.  In 2007, there were a total of 28 bites all year long.  Thus far in 2008, there have already been 24 bites.  The Sheriff, Greg Taylor, expects the yearly total to double.  Half of the victims were bitten by animals other than their own and some of the attacks were severe maulings.  A 6 year old boy was recently attacked by a Bull Mastiff, resulting in multiple bite wounds to his thighs, hips, back, and chest.  Thankfully, his injuries were not life threatening. Every year in Texas, about 400,000 dog bites occur.  It is estimated about 40% of the victims are under the age of 11. Additionally, about 20% of the people who die from dog bites are over the age of 70. If you have been attacked by a dog, it is important to contact an attorney to protect your legal rights.  Damages such as medical costs and pain and suffering are recoverable if the dog's owner was negligent in their control of the animal.  The experienced Rhinelander personal injury lawyers at Habush Habush & Rottier can help you with your situation at 800.369.5990.
