Boating Accident in St. Clair River Claims Three

Posted on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008 at 3:10 am

On October 11, 2008, within the Clay Township, a serious boating accident happened on the St. Clair River.  There were four people on the boat, and only one person survived the crash.   The two couples were on the boat enjoying their evening, when their boat crashed into a dock on the River.

None of the passengers were wearing life jackets, which would have probably saved all of their lives. The boat was split open by a piling throwing everyone from the boat and info the water.  Two died on the scene or on the way to the hospital, the other died at the hospital.  Witnesses and Police saw a large amount of alcohol on the boat, which may have lead to the accident.

Teen Has another Lucky Escape

Posted on Friday, October 10th, 2008 at 4:10 am

In Indian River County this week a fifteen year old boy named Ryan Besancon was hit by a car a few blocks away from the Freshman Learning Center he was biking to.  He escaped the accident with only a bruised knee; however, the story comes from earlier in the boy’s life when he escaped two very serious accidents.

When Ryan was younger, he was involved in a school bus accident in which a tractor trailer collided with the bus, killing the driver and another student.  Ryan received a skull fracture from the incident, but made a full recovery.

Police report that the car was not at fault in this week’s accident, and parents are thankful that the motorist was paying attention.

Birthday for Victim in Motorcycle Accident

Posted on Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 at 3:10 am

Unfortunately for Mr. Robert Keeler, his sixtieth birthday was celebrated in an intensive care unit at the Valley medical Center.  On September 26, 2008, Keeler was driving his motorcycle down a street when a man in a car made an illegal turn. It was this illegal turn that caused the driver to hit Mr. Keeler, throwing him from his motorcycle.  Keeler is now in a coma, though doctors report that he is slowly improving.

Police report the neither drivers were influenced by drugs or alcohol.  The driver of the care was not taken into custody, but there is an investigation underway.   There may be arrests in the future.
