Honors Student Dies in Car Accident

Posted on Friday, November 14th, 2008 at 4:11 am

In Harlem, a community mourns for one honors student was killed in a car accident. Amanda Kordich was only seventeen when a drunk driver ran a red light and struck her in her car.  The man driving the car was Wesley Hanson of Wisconsin, and has pleaded not guilty for the crime, but police still have him in custody—his bond is one million dollars.  Police believe that he was driving drunk.  Unfortunately, hospital officials are reporting that without consent they need a court order to take a blood sample.

Kordich was well loved by her friends and family, which can be scene of at the scene of her death.  Her mother hopes that when drivers see her memorial, it will make drivers think again before driving drunk.

Florida Malpractice Suits

Posted on Monday, November 3rd, 2008 at 3:11 am

The leading medical malpractice suit that is brought before Florida courts is the failure of doctors to diagnosis breast cancer in women.  New statistics show that 10% of all women in the US will have breast cancer at some point in their lifetime.

The American Cancer Society continues its campaign to get women to get tested every year with mammograms.  However, the number of doctors not catching this horrible disease is on the rise, along with the number of medical malpractice suits dealing with breast cancer.

Doctors are failing to perform routine breast exams, which can find lumps at early stages in the disease.  They are also not insisting that women get their yearly mammograms.  Even when such steps are taken, many doctors are misreading the results, and discarding common symptoms as normal.
