Crash Injures 2

A crash occurred early last week that may have been caused in part by freezing rain. The Vilas County Sheriff's Department recieved a call reporting the accident at 7pm last Monday.

The collision occurred on Catfish Lake Bridge on Highway 70. Both drivers suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to Eagle River Memorial Hospital and then air lifted to another hospital.

Man Killed in Washington Snowmobile Accident

John Safka, a 42 year-old resident of Seattle, was killed last Friday when his snowmobile struck two trees, authories from Lake Cle Elum, Washington report.

Safka, described as a "first-time snowmobile rider," was apparently riding at high speeds along the lake bed around 10:30 P.M. when the crash occured. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Snow and ice-related fatalities can be especially prevalent at this time of year, when frozen areas begin to thaw and cause dangerous conditions for vehicles. Man Crashes into School Bus

On Monday afternoon, a man crashed his car into a school buson Davenport St in the Town of Crescent. The man was arrested for OWI as he had a BAC over the .08 legal limit.

The accident occurred around 3pm when the eastbound school bus was rear ended by the car. Luckily, no one was injured. However, accidents like these are often much worse.
