Chef called hero, accidentally tasered

by Administrator 24. March 2010 01:01

A Wisconsin chef was accidentally tasered Sunday evening when police arrived and saw him holding a gun that he had just wrestled from a disgruntled gunman, police said. A man was asked to leave a supper club in the Town of Tainter, police said, but he returned later with a loaded handgun. The chef confronted the man, and they began to struggle as someone called the police.

The chef wrestled the gun from the man and was holding it when police arrived. Officers thought the chef was the suspect and tasered him, authorities said, but in the confusion, they quickly realized he was innocent. They took the armed man into custody, authorities said. Police are calling the chef a hero.

State Might Legalize Selling Raw Milk

by Administrator 17. March 2010 05:20

Ever since 1959, the State of Wisconsin has banned the sale of raw milk for safety's sake, requiring all milk for sale to be pasteurized. However, the state Legislature is now considering a bill that could legalize the sale of raw milk. The law was originally made because raw milk contains a lot of bacteria, and the pasteurization process heats the milk and kills the dangerous pathogens, according to the Federal Food and Drug Administration.

Proponents of the new law say raw milk tastes better and that pasteurization kills a lot of healthy nutrients in the milk. Health officials are against the bill, though, citing a 35-person campylobacteria outbreak in Walworth County caused by raw milk consumption. Illness from raw milk can cause severe diarrhea and vomiting, officials say.

Woman Bitten by Bear

by Administrator 10. March 2010 03:10

A 47-year-old grandmother at Lincoln Park Zoo in Manitowoc, Wis., ignored the signs posted in front of the bear cage that prohibit feeding the animal Friday morning, police said, and was bitten by the creature. Authorities say she lost a thumb and a forefinger in the accident, and her middle and ring fingers were partially severed.

The black bear bit her boyfriend as he tried to free her, but he only suffered minor injuries. The woman and her boyfriend were taken to the hospital and given state-required rabies shots. Her 3-year-old granddaughter was unharmed. The zoo, north of Milwaukee, temporarily closed its doors after the accident. Officials say alcohol was a factor in the accident.
