Couple dies of carbon monoxide poisoning

Posted on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 at 6:04 am

Emergency responders blame carbon monoxide for causing the death of a couple in Rock County, Wis., authorities said. Some family members found the 68-year-old man and the 66-year-old woman unconscious Saturday afternoon in their condiminium, police said. When emergency responders arrived on the scene, they discovered a high concentration of carbon monoxide in the condo.

Police said the couple had left their vehicle running in the garage with the garage door closed. Investigations show that the couple had been to a tavern the night before. Other residents in the complex were evacuated, authorities said, and some were treated on the scene for carbon monoxide poisoning. Investigators do not suspect suicide as the cause of the incident.

Two teens were killed Thursday morning in a three-vehicle crash just outside of Goodman, Wis., authorities said. A 15-year-old girl was pronounced dead on the scene, authorities said, and a 16-year-old boy died at a hospital the next day. The minivan held the girl and six members of the boy's family, who were on their way to schools in Goodman, authorities said. Four people were ejected from the minivan, police said. Six of the van's occupants were taken to the hospital with varying degrees of injury, authorities said. All three occupants from the other vehicles involved in the crash were taken to the hospital as well, police said.
