Cantaloupe listeria outbreak kills 13 in multiple states

An illness caused by Listeria contaminated cantaloupes has already taken the lives of 13 people and sickened 72 across the nation. Officials are saying that this is the most deadly outbreak in recent history.

According to the Center of Disease Control,  this outbreak is worse than the salmonella contamination from peanuts. Officials are currently investigating to determine if there are three more deaths caused from the Listeria.

An issue with the outbreak occurs because of the latency of the illness. Up to four weeks can go by from when the cantaloupe was eaten until symptoms appear. There have been 18 states across the nation that have reported an illness, these include: Wyoming, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, and more.
