Popular bar and grill collapses, injuring dozens of Miami Heat fans

Posted under Premises Liability

A crowd of basketball fans watching the NBA finals on Thursday, June 13 were injured after the deck of a popular Miami sports bar and grill collapsed beneath them.

Thirty-three people were reported injured, including three who suffered critical injuries, when the deck of Shuckers Waterfront Grill collapsed at around 9:45 p.m., sending customers into Biscayne Bay.

Several emergency workers, including Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue divers and Miami-Dade Police, rushed to the scene to rescue those trapped by debris in the shallow waters.  The incident took place just before halftime of the NBA Finals between Miami and San Antonio.

North Bay Village Mayor Connie Leon-Kreps said the accident was “a real tragedy.”

Heat player Dwayne Wade told reporters after the game, in which his team won 109-93, that he and his teammates extend their sympathies to the Miami Heat fans and thank them for their support.
