Posted on Thursday, May 10th, 2012 at 7:31 pm

A seven year-old boy from Tomah returned home this week after spending four days in the hospital following a vicious pit bull attack. The boy was in his driveway when a stray pit bull approached him and latched on to his neck.

A friend rushed to tell the boy’s mother, who came outside to see her son in a pool of blood. After fighting the dog off, the boy was taken to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center where he received more than 100 stitches and staples to his head, neck, and arms.

Neighbors say the dog often roams the neighborhood and that some people feed it. The pit bull has been captured and euthanized.

Teen Driver Saftey Week in Wisconsin takes place this week

Posted on Wednesday, October 19th, 2011 at 2:24 am

The week of October 16 through October 22 has been deemed Teen Driver Safety Week by the governor of Wisconsin in order to remind teen drivers to be responsible while driving.

Traffic accidents are the number one cause of death for teenagers in Wisconsin and across the nation. The govenor is hoping that this week will be a reminder to teens that they should drive less agressively, do not text while driving and to make sure that they wear a seat belt.

In Wisconsin in 2010, 57 teenagers were killed and 6,189 were injured as a result of car accidents. These numbers are nearly four times higher than the number of adults that are killed in car crashes.

City Denies Fault in Electrocution of Young Boy

Posted on Thursday, January 29th, 2009 at 7:01 am

5-year-old Izaya Baiz-Hickley was killed after crawling in to a nearby utility box in his apartment complex.  He was electrocuted.

The city maintains their innocence, saying it was an accidental death.  However, they cannot 100% verify if the utility box was locked or unlocked at the time Baiz-Hickley crawled in.  They claim the utility box had not been touched since a year prior when it was being painted.  They attest vandels might have stolen the keys.

So who’s responsibility is it to make sure the box stays closed at all times?

The parents of Izaya do not think it is possible for a 5-year-old to break in to a metal box.  Therefore, the city should claim responsibility for their negligence.

If you or someone you know has been injured due to negligence on another’s behalf, it is important that you contact your Rhinelander personal injury laywer at 800-242-2874 to discuss your next steps.

Seatbelt Malfunction Causes Death in Young Woman

Posted on Friday, January 16th, 2009 at 6:01 am

Sandra Dozier was killed in a car accident while driving her 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix.  She lost control of the vehicle, and it rolled over.  It was a seat-belt related accident, but not what you may think.  Dozier was properly wearing her seat belt.

There is a pending claim initiated by Dozier’s family in regards to the seat-belt manufacturers.  The family is arguing the injuries imposed on their daughter were due to the unreasonably dangerous and “not reasonably crashworthy” seat belt system built in to the vehicle.

There is evidence from the scene of the accident that agrees with the family’s claims, and points to negligence on the car manufacturer’s end.

There were glass particles found in the webbing, markings by the d-ring, and stains below stow point on the belt that are all strong indicators of a defective seat belt.

If you or someone you know has suffered an injury, or death, due to a malfunctioning product, it is crucial you contact a Rhinelander personal injury lawyer at 800-242-2874 to discuss potential compensation for your losses and sufferings.

Man is finally Charged For ’03 Crash

Posted on Monday, December 22nd, 2008 at 3:12 am

It may have been a while, but the family of Benjamin Westerman has not forgotten.  Now almost six years later, the man who killed their son, William J. Shroeder, is finally being charged with the death of his friend.

It was a tragic car accident like so many others that occur around our nation during the July 4th celebrations, a young man killed because someone decided to drink and drive. Shroeder was drunk when he veered off the road at about 100mph.  Although it sounds like an open and shut case, it has taken six years for charges to finally be pressed.  He will be charged with a felony in homicide by reckless operation of a car. HE faces up to ten years in prison with a fine of $25,000.

Winter Storms Take Toll on Drivers

Posted on Thursday, December 11th, 2008 at 2:12 am

Wisconsin is no stranger to dangerous winter storms or  poor driving conditions, but every year people seem to forget how to safely driver on the roads. On Wednesday, the winter storm that hi Wausau caught many people off guard.  The Marathon County police department had over 80 calls about car accidents and pile ups on local roads.

For one unlucky state trooper, a woman lost control of her vehicle and slid off the road, into the police car.  Neither the woman nor Trooper Bob Fochs were hurt in the accident, though both cars suffered some damage.

Further up the road another accident occurred between two tractor-trailers, both of which jackknifed on the road and blocked traffic for some time.
