Woman Bitten by Bear

by Administrator 10. March 2010 03:10

A 47-year-old grandmother at Lincoln Park Zoo in Manitowoc, Wis., ignored the signs posted in front of the bear cage that prohibit feeding the animal Friday morning, police said, and was bitten by the creature. Authorities say she lost a thumb and a forefinger in the accident, and her middle and ring fingers were partially severed.

The black bear bit her boyfriend as he tried to free her, but he only suffered minor injuries. The woman and her boyfriend were taken to the hospital and given state-required rabies shots. Her 3-year-old granddaughter was unharmed. The zoo, north of Milwaukee, temporarily closed its doors after the accident. Officials say alcohol was a factor in the accident.
