How do you properly use a child car seat?

Infants who weigh less than 20 pounds and are under 1 year of age should always ride rear-facing. After the child weighs 20 pounds and is over a year old, they can ride forward-facing. However, current recommendations advise that children should ride facing the rear as long as possible. Additionally, older, school-aged children should ride in the back seat of the car.
