The Wisconsin-based Lakeside Foods Inc., has announced the recall of nearly 3,000 cans of pickled beets that were sold to distributors in 18 different states.
The recalled cans were sold from December 2009 to January 2011 and were underprocessed. The cans may be contaminated with harmful chemicals that can cause botulism.
Botulism is a type food poisoning that could be fatal and generally causes symptoms of weakness, dizziness, constipation, trouble with speaking and difficulty breathing. There have not been any illnesses reported from the beets at this time.
