Early Saturday morning, a wrong-way driver caused an accident on Interstate 94 near Hammond. The Wisconsin State Patrol reported that the driver was a 27-year-old man.
Shortly after 2:20 a.m., the driver was witnessed driving eastbound in the interstate’s westbound lanes before crashing into a vehicle traveling westbound. The vehicle that was hit in the accident was driven by a 41-year-old man. The 27-year-old continued driving in the wrong direction until police were able to stop his vehicle using tire deflation equipment.
The wrong-way driver was not injured in the accident, but the other driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The 41-year-old was treated at a nearby hospital. Police have charged the driver who caused the accident with several traffic violations including reckless driving.
