An Iowa state hospital was slapped with a medical malpractice lawsuit this week after a mother and her newborn son suffered injuries during delivery. The mother arrived at the hospital in active labor but was not taken in to surgery for a Caesarean section until almost nine hours later.
As a result of the delay, the son was born with a skull deformity, subdural hemorrhages, and a fractured skull. The mother’s bladder was lacerated and later became infected, leading to a wound separation, bowel obstruction, and pelvic abscess.
The mother is accusing the hospital and doctors of medical negligence for failing to safely deliver her son and delaying the delivery.
