A class-action lawsuit has been filed by a Concord law firm after 19 patients and one staff member contracted hepatitis C while at New Hampshire’s Exeter Hospital. A criminal investigation into the outbreak is also planned.
The initial investigation has revealed that the spread of hepatitis C may have occurred due to hospital staff using the same syringes on more than one patient. The lawsuit is accusing Exeter Hospital of negligence, the Boston Globe reports.
Hepatitis C is a viral disease that destroys the liver and could possibly cause chronic health problems. A person diagnosed with hepatitis C says he has been experiencing sleeplessness, high stress, and pain.
