Ford issued a recall of certain 2013 model cars built between November 29 and December 12 of 2012. The recall was announced on Wednesday, July 10 and will affect its Lincoln MKS, Taurus, and Explorer models.
According to Ford, these models have a defective child safety lock mechanism that can be deactivated on their own, allowing children to easily open the rear doors on their own from the inside.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) posted a cautionary note on their website, stating that the faulty child safety door locks could cause serious injuries to an unsecured child.
A total of 12,569 will be recalled by Ford for inspection and free replacement of locks on August 5, 2012.
